The Oklahoma Correctional Association Conference scheduled for October 8-10, 2008, has something for everyone! The theme for this year's conference is "Here and Now: Success in Criminal Justice."

The conference will feature four workshop tracks: (1) Security and Operations, (2) Treatment and Programs, (3) Leadership and Reentry, and (4) Community Support.



Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from R. Darrell Weaver, Director, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, who will be speaking at the Opening Session.



Workshops will be offered on a variety of topics including Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence and on Evidence-Based Supervision.





Carl Reddick, retired Oregon Probation and Parole Officer nationally known for his work with cognitive behavioral programs with mandated offenders, will offer workshops on Belief Systems and Offender Tactics.





A workshop on Accessing State Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services will be presented by the Deputy Commissioner of Mental Health, Carrie Slatton-Hodges, and Caletta McPherson, Deputy Commissioner of Substance Abuse Services. A panel presentation will also be offered on Accessing Federal Benefits.





Conference attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from members of the Oklahoma Legislative who will participate on a panel and respond to questions concerning criminal justice practices in the state.





Other tentative workshop topics include: Victimology, Personal Branding, Ethics, Leadership Styles, Diversionary Programs, Faith and Community Support and Services Available to Offenders at Reentry, Aging Issues, and Crisis Intervention for Criminal Justice Professionals.





There will also be plenty of time for fun and networking with other criminal justice professionals during dinner and evening activities.
