2007 Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival September 14, 2007

The World's largest lobster festival, the Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival features discount Maine lobster meals. After feasting on our world famous lobster meals, guests in the past have enjoyed dancing, street performers, a pirate camp, tall ships and music from artists like Jason Mraz, Tristan Prettyman, The Young Dubliners, General Public or shop for arts and crafts. Lobster lovers enjoy a scenic outdoor park and shops at Ports O' Call in San Pedro, California.

Friday, September 14th 2006:
It's TGIF at the Lobster Festival. San Pedro is a town that works hard and plays hard. So we're kicking off the weekend with Indie 103.1's Full Metal Jackie as our main stage hostess with the mostest and the Indie Street Team for an evening of "wear a helmet and bang your head" rock and roll for the home team. If you party hearty or just love the best hard-rocking music in LA, here's what we have in store for you Friday night at the Lobster Festival:

7:00pm Duress
Huntington Beach based rock band Duress recently made a highly successful appearance on the "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" segment during the popular "Frosty, Heidi and Frank Show" on Los Angeles radio station KLSX-FM. "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" is a weekly Friday afternoon segment that gives local, unsigned artists an opportunity to showcase their music while the listeners vote on whether the band should "stay" or "go." Featuring Chad Anthony lead vocal/guitar and Cody Requejo on guitar/vocals, Marco Forcone on drums and Mike Doyle on bass, after the first single, "Blow" was played, host Heidi exclaimed to Anthony, "I wanna unDuress for you…I absolutely loved it," while Frosty proclaimed, "I think we've just heard the best band of the year so far!"

We know you'll think so too as Duress kicks off a weekend of phenomenal music.

8:00pm The Binges
Meet the next generation of old school rock and roll. Two virtuoso sisters from Tokyo, Tsuzumi and Mayuko on guitar and backed by Dylan's vocals and "Skanky" on the drums are what the LA Times called "one of the 10 bands on the horizon in 2007...who put on a show chuck filled with fist pumping anthems."

9:00pm The Valley Dolls
Now that the Binges have lit your fire, we are going to rev you up and finish off the evening with an eye popping all-girl 80's heavy metal tribute complete with era attire, covering the best of AC/DC, Motley Crue, Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Ozzy, Metallica and more. Lots of rocker lingo and humor from four gals who just happened to be hot musicians.

12:00pm NOON The World Famous LobsterDog Pet Parade
It's wacky, it's weird, but it's all for a good cause - Peninsula Dog Park. Don't miss a chance to see a worldwide phenomenon as costumed and caped canines compete for the $500.00. Grand Prize in the strangest dog parade in the universe.

1:00-1:45pm The Otherside
This blues trio blew the socks off the music industry at NAMM this year when they performed their original song "I Will Follow". James Torme, son of jazz crooner Mel Torme, says flat out that they are a band that's going to be big. We found them at the Temecula Valley Musicians' Workshop, but we think you'll be finding them on iTunes sometime soon. Mary, Tara and Devon have been influenced by artists such as KT Tunstall, John Mayer and Joss Stone. Maybe so, but after seeing them perform we think the The Otherside is destined to be doing the influencing in the future.

2:00pm Native Wayne presents Common Sense
The party gets into full swing with the reggae-rock music of Orange County's Common Sense. Veteran's of the Van's Warped and Ignite Tours, their uproarious and infectious music bridges the gap between reggae, rock, pop and funk. If that's not enough, toss it all in a blender and add a dash of surfing music and you've got the makings of a California original - Common Sense.

3:30pm The Ringers
Hot off their Bottle Rocket Baby Tour and the Mojave Desert Rock Festival the Ringers are landing at the Lobster Festival and heating up the main stage action with their explosive live show. And they are so good we've booked 'em twice this weekend. Catch The Ringers again on Sunday in case you need a double dose of take-no-prisoners indie rock.

5:00pm Eagle and Talon
The BOSTON HERALD describes Eagle and Talon as - "Los Angeles girlie-punk duo Eagle and Talon ripped through a rousing opening set full of artfully executed noise: a guitar and drums-based affair fused with primal feminine abandon reminiscent of both ''Guyville"-era Liz Phair and the quirky timing of early Throwing Muses." We agree with Indie 103.1 and think they are a refreshingly different duo, pushing the edge of the envelope and having a lot of fun doing it.

7:00pm Great Northern
We are going to go out on a limb here and state that Great Northern won't be with us next year - because they are destined to hit it big. They are that good. LA-based Great Northern's journey has just begun whether it's SXSW, or sold out shows at the Silverlake Lounge. At the Hammer Museum and elsewhere crowds are lining up around the block to hear Great Northern. At the Lobster Festival you can see them for yourself up close and personal on the main stage.

8:00pm Scissors for Lefty
We imported Scissors for Lefty from San Francisco to bring you a performance that has been described as "America's answer to British Rock." As openers for the Arctic Monkeys and Smashing Pumpkins they've cemented their reputation as one of the new bands primed for the spotlight. They are cutting edge, but rooted firmly in classic rock and enormous FUN on stage. If you've come to the fest to dance, then this is the band for you. Slip on your dancing shoes and rock away...

9:00pm Fandango tribute to ZZ Top
They've opened for the Blue Oyster Cult, headlined the House of Blues and the LA County Fair, and sold out shows from Spokane to Japan. Fandango's tribute to ZZ Top is hands down one of the best tribute bands in the world.

Sunday, September 16th 2006:
Meet Indie 103.1's TK and the Indie Street Team as they host Sunday's main stage indie band blowout featuring our grand finale, live and in person, AMBROSIA at 5:15 pm.

12:30pm Bodies of Water
Full of heart and smart. Bodies of Water has a "big sound," uplifting lyrics, you could describe them as like Arcade Fire meets the Moody Blues, but something else totally original. They list their influences as everyone from Erik Satie to Willie Nelson to David Bowie (among others). We'll take their word for it, but want to add a few of our own - Bodies of Water will be their own influence in the years ahead.

1:30pm Country Gone Awry
We've gotten a lot of requests to add some country music to our mix, so here you go. Country Gone Awry features the best of Rascall Flatts, Johnny Cash, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Creedence Clearwater and more.

2:30pm St. James Inc
When Austin Hartley-Leonard recorded his first demo he played all the instruments himself. The demo earned him an invitation to South by SouthWest and St. James inc the band was born. Their performance at SXSW earned them gigs at nationally renowned venues such as The Mercury Lounge in New York City, Hotel Cafe and The Viper Room in LA, Stubb's and The Parish in Austin, Subterranean in Chicago, and the Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre in San Antonio. In 2005 they performed at the Austin City Limits Music Festival alongside such acts as Coldplay, Oasis, and The Black Crowes. You'll hear their music in the upcoming film "Moving McAllister" and on the hit TV show "Men in Trees". We compare them to another artist who early in his career appeared at the Lobster Festival - Jason Mraz. St James Inc is a not to be missed performance.

3:15pm The Ringers
They're baaack. The Ringers rock the fest with an encore performance of their patented brand of hot rocking music.

4:15pm Neuromance
Once in awhile we find a band just by accident. Or maybe like falling in love, it just happens. But one night at the Viper Room we were blown away by Neuromance's lead vocalist Cynthia Mittweg and the capable Erik Colvin on lead guitar, Clive Tucker on drums and Milo DeCruz, former bassist for Ryan Adams. They call the band Neuromance, a tip of the hat to William Gibson's novel "Neuromancer" and something else - play with it a bit and see if you can figure it out. We won't try to describe Cynthia's ethereal and haunting vocals, except to say that if there is ever "the next Gwen Stefani" she's going to be at the Lobster Festival and you'll get to hear for yourself why one reviewer said Neuromance is "the best of the 'brand new' in the last 25 years of fierce and original rock and roll."

5:15pm Ambrosia - Live and in Person!
What better way to cap an weekend of progressive rock and indie music that with San Pedro's own Ambrosia? No, not a tribute, but Ambrosia live and in person playing their favorite ballads and hard driving rock and roll. Don't miss Ambrosia, Sunday at the Lobster Festival.
