Labor Day: a weekend marking the end of summer & a chance to celebrate all our work over the past year(s).
For bisexuals, it can be a bit twisted of course. And not just because we can enjoy time at the workplace, the family bbq, & the back-room play space with equal ease. More likely it’s twisted because we see each of these places differently from other folks.
In the workplace we have the opportunity - and challenge - to find our own family. Are there other bisexuals among our coworkers? How about allies? And if so, how do we find them? Deciding when to come out to colleagues can can a harrowing and equally rewarding experience. That just means that it’s worth the difficulty... So let’s consider the strategies we use for find our allies and create a network of mutual support for ourselves.
Some of use find a second challenge in the role we have as defenders of the wider justice. But it is possible to fight prejudice in small ways without putting ourselves in the line of fire? When does the challenge do more harm than good, and what’s the best way to decide?
In this dilemma, the family weekend gathering can be just a treacherous. Snide jokes are one thing, but sometimes the sentiment of a snide joke or a comment can cut closer to the bone. It’s not just what’s said, but when it comes from family, it’s likely to hurt a little more. Let BiRequest be a place to share when family helps and hurts us personally.
And then there’s the back-room play space.. a location for all manner of physical pleasures (and pleasant pain). Where do we find our pleasures abound? And are these spaces universally accepting and supporting of our varied inclinations? The labor of coming out still resonates. And then there are fetishes still.. How do we keep them all . . . um . . . straight??
Join our famously supportive, BiRequest crowd for an engaging conversation. Open to all Bi and bi-friendly folks, of any age, race, gender, sexual or relational orientation. Ours is a tiny example of our rainbow; a safe space to share your perspective and insights into all things Bi.
And if you can’t join us for the meeting, catch up with us for dinner, round 8:15-ish, at . . .
