1AM gallery presents... 6th Street Beautification December 20, 2008

To celebrate the holidays and the spirit of giving, 1AM is proud to present the “6th Street Beautification” exhibition. 1AM is donating a percentage of proceeds from all art sales to City Crossroads Community Center. Established in 1984, Crossroads, located in the heart of the city at 6th Street, is a place where SF youth can get off the streets and just be "kids" again rather than dealing with the pressures of the streets.

Gifted City Crossroads youth and members such as Camer1, Dennis Bullock, and Micronaut will be exhibiting their art alongside other local fine and urban artists. All the art will be affordable so come support the 6th Street Beautification with 1AM as we close out our groundbreaking year. As an added bonus, DJ Spinner D will be bringing you the soundtrack to the night with guest MC Cause.

City Crossroads Community Center:

As many San Franciscans know, the Sixth Street corridor is a hard place to live, or even drive through for that matter. Drug abuse, alcohol abuse, the dealing of narcotic substances, prostitution and many other crimes are very evident in this area. What many don't know is that it is also a place where hundreds of youth and children reside. While most suburb children can play in their backyard with their friends or go to the park after school, the inner city does not provide many of these types of amenities. This is where City Crossroads Community Center comes in to play.

Established in 1984, Crossroads is place where kids can get off the streets and just be "kids" again rather than dealing with the pressures of the streets. It provides a safe environment where children and youth can play pool, basketball, video games, and many other activities. They can get help with homework, learn instruments, and immerse themselves in art. They get to go on field trips taking them out of the city, which for many is something that they experience for the first time. Crossroads is a place where they can seek counsel from the staff that loves them unconditionally. It is a place that believes in hope and healing in a neighborhood that is hurting.
