It's that time of year again! The 19th Annual Los Feliz Village Street Fair unfurls its magic on Sunday July 22, 2012 from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm on Hollywood Boulevard between Vermont and Hillhurst Avenues. The Los Feliz Village Business Improvement District (LFVBID), announces that after last year's triumphant success on Hollywood Boulevard, that the best little village in L.A. welcomes back its beloved celebration.
In keeping the momentum gained from the last few years of booking more Green vendors at their yearly celebration, the LFVBID has committed to creating a lighter carbon footprint for the Street Fair. While this year is the first official starting point on that journey, they strive to see where they can make proactive choices in merchandise, information and foods that are offered to the public, while still keeping that funky, friendly, family spirit that the event is known for. The Street Fair is showcasing ecological designers, organic foods and other Green options. "Every year we will attempt to exceed the previous year's efforts, looking for ways to increase that percentage of green", says Melissa Tornay owner of Primrose Organic Salon and a BID board member.
In the coming years, the BID will be looking at greener options for stages, lighting and all the other necessary components of producing a community event of this size, with their ultimate goal to be at 100% within the next decade. Los Feliz has become a leader in utilizing local area merchants and services with an eye toward a Greener future and the Street Fair Committee plans on capitalizing on that energy and enthusiasm in bringing these and other forward thinkers to the attention of the public.
A huge part of the Greening effort is urging the public to use other forms of transportation in getting to the fairground on Hollywood Boulevard. The president of the BID, Chris Serrano adds, "We encourage the public to use the Metro Station located just blocks away at Vermont Ave and Sunset Blvd and we plan on engaging a Bike Valet to corral human powered modes of transportation".
And as always, Los Feliz Village's fine restaurants will be on hand to dish out some of the best food in the Los Angeles region and its shops out in force with their unique and trend setting inventories. Also returning will be the beer and wine gardens, pouring locally produced beers and wines. It is widely acknowledged that this part of town is a hot bed for talent, and the two main stages, set at either end of Hollywood Blvd will be on fire with talent. Tremoloco, Lauren Adams Band, The New York System with Dave Bedrosian, Kind Hearts & Coronets, Lightnin' Willie & the Poor Boys, Dave Osti, Nicole Gordon, Thickest Thieves, and many others are performing this year. Please visit their website for the full line up, as well as other superior offerings.
As always the Los Feliz Village Street Fair is free to the public! Come out and enjoy the festivities in this little gem of a village at the base of Griffith Park.
