MJF's 19th Annual Awards Celebration will be held on November 9, 2006, at 5:30 pm in the Atrium of the International Market Square. (1971 Annapolis Lane North, in Minneapolis.)
At the celebration we will honor those who have provided MJF with outstanding service over the last year. Awards will be given to students, law firms, private practices, direct legal services, and advocacy and support services. A special distinguished service award will also be given.
MJF is pleased to announce that Joseph Margulies will be the keynote speaker at our 2006 Annual Awards Celebration.
Mr. Margulies is an attorney with the MacArthur Justice Center and a clinical professor at Northwestern University Law School. He was lead counsel in Rasul v. Bush, involving the lawfulness of the Guantanamo detentions, and is the author of Guantanamo and the Abuse of Presidential Power (Simon and Schuster 2006). In 2002, Margulies was the Distinguished Practitioner in Residence at Cornell University Law School, and in 2004, he joined the faculty at the MacArthur Justice Center.
He remains actively involved in post-9/11 detention litigation, and writes and lectures widely both on the Administration's detention policy and on the state of civil liberties in the wake of September 11.
