1947 is Pierrot’s Troupe’s yet another highly acclaimed drama, performed by SALEEM SHAH, a renowned cinema and TV artist, remembered especially for his thought provoking roles in films like Mammo, English August, Naseem, Sarfarosh, Fanaa etc. and TV Series like Just Mohabbat, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi etc.

Succinctly speaking, the play takes a fresh, non academic, non political look at the partition of the country in 1947.

The story unfolds in the form of an 85 year old man as well as an Alzheimer’s patient -- Ghazanfar Hussein -- , recalling the partition and its immediate as well as long-term aftermath juxtaposed with the loss of memory that he suffers from.

In the process, the old man’s non-academic non-descript, and also factually incorrect, personal memoirs of the Partition question a range of stereotypes about the incident – its genesis, its causes, its worth, its effects.

As regards the production house Pierrot’s Troupe, it has, during its brief history, earned the reputation of being the “purveyor” of original plays in India. A good number of these well-received and critically acclaimed ones include: Ghalib in New Delhi, Cut…Cut…Cut, K. L. Saigal, Ghalib, Raja Nahar Singh, Tumko Chahoon…, Maulana Azad, Big B, Begum Akhtar, A Private Affair, Ghalib Ke Khat Baur Ki Aulad, Sons of Babur etc.
