“Golf is a funny game.” - Lyle the greenskeeper
The setting is the eighteen greens of the Brazoria Bend golf course in Southeast Texas where four sets of golfers make their way around the course. There is a father who has been given the task of telling his young son that his wife is leaving him, a golden years couple who constantly bicker over the winning power of a pink golf ball, two slackers who are in hot pursuit of the beer girl, and a collection of ladies from the Sunset Society (an organization of women who wear orange hats). The audience is guided through the evening by the course greenskeeper, Lyle - who watches each group as an interested observer. Featuring scenes that range from slapstick comedy to heartfelt drama, Gene Kato's 2007 award-winning script is bound to have something for everyone.
Director Jessica Clare has cast Daniel Langhoff as Lyle, Joey Santos (Doug), Joseph Johnson (Arty), Robert Michael Sanders (Hal), Jason Maxwell (Nate), Benjamin T. Koucherik (Ivan), L. Corwin Christie (Triona), Kerry Beebe (Norma), Arthur Goodman (Erwin), Robin Litt (Sydney), Rosey Waters (Hattie), Suzanna Wellens (Yvonne), Sharon Kahn-Kahn (Geraldine) and Patric Call (Paris).
Gene Kato (Playwright/Sound Design) holds an M.A. in Theatre from CU-Boulder. His past writing credits include Next Stage’s inaugural production of Just For Laughs, his adaptation of The Little Mermaid (produced by Main Street Players), as well as over 20 other plays and screenplays. His newest comedy 10 Pin Alley (dealing with the age old war between bowling pins and that pesky ball that continually knocks them down) will be produced by Vintage Theatre in Feb/March 2009. Next summer, Gene departs Denver to return to his native Houston where he will begin filming his new screenplay Horrorville.
