History
It all started in 1992 with an idea by Dave Hernandez, a member of the Downtown Indio Merchants Association. The rich heritage of the tamale, consistent community support & hard working tamale makers have created the festival's tremendous success. Recently, the Food Network-TV ranked the Indio International Tamale Festival in the top 10 "All-American Food Festivals" in the nation!

Festival's Guinness World Records
The World's largest Tamale-over 1 foot in diameter & 40 feet in length, Dec. 4, 1999. The World's largest tamale festival-with 120,000 in attendance, Dec. 2-3, 2000.

Free parking is available at the County’s Administration Building, Larson Justice Center on the corner of Hwy 111 & Oasis St. Public parking is also available on various streets around Downtown Indio.

Free shuttle services are provided to all festival visitors from the Larson Justice Center.

From Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, San Bernardino
Take I-10 East, exit Indio Blvd & continue straight ahead for about 1.5 miles & turn right onto Monroe Street, turn left on Hwy 111. Parking is available at the Larson Justice Center on the corner of Hwy 111 & Oasis St.

From San Diego, Oceanside, Temecula
Take I-15 North, To I-215 North Toward Riverside/San Bernardino, Merge onto CA-60 East toward Beaumont/Indio, Take the exit on the left toward Beaumont, Merge onto I-10 East, Exit Indio Blvd & continue straight ahead for about 1.5 miles & turn right onto Monroe Street, Turn left on Hwy 111. Parking is available at the Larson Justice Center on the corner of Hwy 111 & Oasis St.

From Phoenix, Blythe, El Centro
Take I-10 West, exit on the Golf Center Parkway & turn left heading south, turn right on Hwy 111. Parking is available at the Larson Justice Center on the corner of Hwy 111 & Oasis St.
