Details for the 13th Annual Black History Essay Contest sponsored by Narnia Studios of Hendersonville, North Carolina have been announced. "It is hard to believe it's been 13 years since the very first contest. Our first essay writers are now in college! We are excited about the upcoming 13th aniversary essay contest for Henderson County's third and seventh graders," said Barbara Hughes, owner of Narnia Studios.
"Each year the quality as well as the quantity of essays increases as teachers make it part of their Black History Month focus for their students."
The purpose of the essay contest is to foster in the student a desire to learn about the invaluable contributions African Americans have made to help make this the great nation that it is, according to Hughes. "I felt this would be a culturally enriching and rewarding experience for every student that enters. The judges and I certainly learn new information each year."
The essays are to be written about an African American who is an historical figure, a celebrity or someone the student knows personally. They must be 250 words or less.
