The twelfth annual Northern New England Sled Dog Trade Fair & Seminar will be held September 29th and 30th at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds (Green Gate entrance only) in Contoocook, New Hampshire. Meet inspirational keynote speaker Lance Mackey, a cancer survivor who has won the Yukon Quest for the past three years and the Iditarod this year as well. The only musher ever to win both races back-to-back, Mackey is a candidate for the 2007 ESPY “Best Outdoor Athlete”, the first musher ever nominated! Speaking on sled dog health care is race veterinarian Dr. Turner Lewis. A free “Mushing 101” seminar for all ages will be taught by sprint and skijor racer and sled builder Johnn Molburg. Mackey, Lewis, and Molburg will lead a roundtable discussion, with issues suggested by the audience.
Speakers will be available both days to chat one-on-one with experienced, novice and future mushers. Fun rig races (weather permitting), raffles for mushing related items, and vendors offering sleds, harnesses, carts and other equipment, dog food and supplements, breed and club information, unique hand knit sweaters and other gifts will round out the weekend. Great food provided by “FatBoys”. Everyone interested in mushing and dog powered sports is welcome.
Sponsored by Pine Tree Knits, Mountain Ridge Equipment, and MaineMade Dog Sleds, this event will take place, rain or shine, Saturday 9AM to 5 PM and Sunday 8AM to 3PM. Daily admission of $5.00/adult and $2/juniors 8-17, includes one free raffle ticket. Free parking. On-grounds camping is $23.00/night (Friday and Saturday).
