11th International Conference on the Ecology and Management of Alien Plant Invasions (EMAPI 2011) August 29, 2011

Dear Colleague,

On behalf of the organizing institutes, we would like to extend a warm invitation to join us at the 11th International Conference on the Ecology and Management of Alien Plant Invasions (EMAPi), to be held in Szombathely/Hungary between 30th August and 3rd September 2011.

The series of EMAPi meetings began with the International Workshop on the Ecology and Management of Invasive Riparian and Aquatic Plants held at Loughborough University in the U.K. in 1992. The following year continued with EMAPi 2 in the Czech Republic (1993). Since then, EMAPi conferences have been held every two years:

1995 Arizona,

1997 Germany,

1999 Sardinia,

2001 the United Kingdom,

2003 Florida,

2005 Poland

2007 Australia

2009 South Africa

The initial focus of EMAPi on Europe and North America quickly extended to other parts of the World which later led to EMAPi becoming truly global in its reach. Speciality of EMAPi is that it covers all aspects of plant invasion from pure science to management of plant invasions. Following this tradition, the title of this conference is ‘Bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and management practice’. We hope that oral and poster sessions, as well as the social events and excursions make good possibilities for personal contacts and information exchange between nature conservationists, land use managers and researchers.

Scientific topics cover almost every aspects of plant invasion, thus everyone will be able to find something relevant during the scientific part. We hope that ’ as it happened in the previous EMAPi meetings ’ this frame will be filled by your high quality oral and poster presentations.

An interesting and colourful range of social events will enhance the opportunities for delegates to network with associates as well as to enjoy the Hungarian cultural heritage. Fascinating mid- and post-conference tours will also be arranged to highlight the most interesting invaded and seminatural types of the rich Hungarian vegetation.
