On behalf of the Organizing and Scientific Committees of the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM), it is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the 11th Conference of the International Society of Travel Medicine (CISTM11) to be held in Budapest, Hungary at the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) Congress Center from May 24–28, 2009.
The goal of the Budapest meeting is to share with all our international colleagues advances in the science and art of travel medicine, presented in a spectacular European city.
The biennial ISTM conferences are established as the leading venue for the practice and science of the discipline of travel medicine. As usual, educational formats will include Plenaries and Symposia, Debates, Workshops, Original Scientific Presentations, Meet the Experts, Case of the Day and abstract presentations. Satellite programs and sponsored events will also be offered.
Budapest possesses a rich and fascinating history as well as a vibrant cultural heritage. Recognizing the unique value of its traditions it has managed to maintain its magic and charm, and is rightly known as the Queen of the Danube. It has also been called the City of Spas, as there are a dozen thermal bath complexes served by over a hundred natural thermal springs.
The capital city of Hungary, Budapest, was created out of the unification of the separate historic towns of Buda, Pest and Óbuda in 1873. While the area had been inhabited from early times, it was from this date that the city’s expansion into a world capital really began. Today Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities of Europe. It is home to a population of 1.8 million people.
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee and the Scientific Program Committee of the ISTM, we are pleased to invite you to this unique venue for this 11th CISTM. This marks the first time that ISTM has ventured from traditional conference sites in Western Europe and North America. We are confident you will have an engaging scientific, cultural and historical experience in this innovative location in the new Eastern Europe.
About the Conference
This conference is intended for all who are interested in education, research and services in the field of travel medicine and migration medicine. Specifically including physicians, nurses and students involved in primary care, occupational, migrant and public health, infectious diseases, emergency and wilderness medicine. In order to give you an idea of the scope of the conference, we have provided examples of anticipated topics. However, this list is not meant to be all-inclusive as the broadest range of travel health issues will be discussed during this international meeting.
