Virginia Mentoring Partnership (VMP) is pleased to announce the 11th Annual Virginia Mentoring Awards to take place Thursday, March 14th at the Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond. During this event, in celebration of VMP’s 20th Anniversary, Virginia Mentoring Partnership will award the S. Buford Scott award for community service through mentoring to Dominion Resources for the many years that they and their employees have supported youth mentoring in Virginia. This year VMP will also present a special achievement award, the VMP Chairman’s Award, to The Carver Promise program which has provided mentors for students at Carver Elementary School, part of Richmond Public Schools, since 1991. The Carver Promise, a program of Communities in Schools of Richmond, supports every student at Carver with a mentor and was the first VMP program awardee in 2003.
Thomas F. Farrell II, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Dominion states, “The future of Virginia rests upon a strong foundation of education and the personal guidance provided by caring, dedicated mentors”. Dominion's youth mentoring initiatives have grown over many years. Its support for youth-serving organizations is matched by the dedication of its employee volunteers, from the early days of the Richmond Public School’s Lunch-Buddy program, to Junior Achievement and now, with Mr. Farrell’s support, the launch of Middle School Renaissance program.
These organizations and other programs and individuals will be recognized at the 11th Annual Virginia Mentoring Awards event March 14, 2013, 11:30 am at the Science Museum of in Richmond, 2500 W.
