10th Annual Plant City Pig Jam State BBQ Championship November 17, 2012

There will be finger-licking fun for all ages at the 10th annual Plant City Pig Jam State BBQ Championship on Saturday, November 17.

Teams of backyard barbecuers and serious veterans from all over the country will converge on Plant City to compete for $16,000 in cash prizes, trophies, ribbons and bragging rights at this Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned competition. Last year 78 teams fired it up at Pig Jam. The Grand Champion winner at this event will be invited to participate in the prestigious American Royal World Series of Barbecue next fall in Kansas City, MO.

Pig Jam is from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Randy L. Larson Softball Four-Plex, 1500 S. Park Rd. in Plant City. It is hosted by the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce.

At the event, feast on some of this country’s best, slow-and-low cooked barbecue ribs, pork, brisket and chicken, and plenty of side dishes including roasted corn, coleslaw and potato salad. You’ll also be able to consult with the barbecuers too about wood vs. charcoal, humidity, basting, number of turns and other technique issues. Kids will have their own children’s play area where there will be a rock climbing wall, moon walk and other activities. Ace Jackson and The Jump Kings, and the Candy Green Band will be the live entertainment on-stage for the event.

An added feature this year is the new dessert and BBQ sauce competition. Amateur bakers and sauce creators can enter their favorite recipes for a chance to win up to $100.

There is also a raffle, thanks to The Hay Exchange that donated a large Big Green Egg grill package, and a 50-quart YETI® cooler. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at the Plant City Chamber or at Pig Jam. Winners will be chosen at the conclusion of the event.

Admission to Pig Jam is free; parking is $5 per vehicle. Proceeds benefit the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship Fund and other programs.
