Dance for the Planet ? On the Move!

10th Annual
Dance for the Planet
April 29 - 30, 2006
Noon - 5:00 pm

ANNETTE STRAUSS ARTIST SQUARE
SAMUELL-GRAND PARK

6200 East Grand Ave
Dallas, 75215

The sound of hundreds of feet stomping, sliding and skipping over fields of green grass and wooden stages fills the air with excitement as 150 performing dance companies and over 1,500 performers indulge in their passion for dance at the Dance Council?s 10th annual Dance for the Planet festival. As dance critic Margaret Putnam wrote in her 2005 article, ?It was as if the entire Artist Square had turned into one long dance fest. Impromptu performance broke out sporadically. Children tumbled in the bounce house, break-dancers took over a spot on the lawn, girls in tiaras and long tutus practiced pirouettes on a hill, and a couple in ballroom attire suddenly broke out in a rumba.?

Food vendors feed the masses and craft vendors line the tree-lined amphitheater of Samuel Grand Park. Everyone is invited to find their inner dancer and set their feet to moving. Be immersed in this unique outdoor dance festival, the only one of its kind in North Texas, and as always, admission is free.

Performances, Classes and Global Dances

Dance Council President Solomon Espie states, ?Dance for the Planet is truly for everyone and anyone who is interested in dance, whether you personally dance or not! It?s for all ages and abilities! Come out and enjoy the benefits of dance. Feel your spirit soar to new heights, experience that extra spring in your step, and view outstanding performances by amateurs and professional companies.?

The 2006 festival will draw over 15,000 spectators to partake in the cultural diversity that the festival has to offer. Two stages will be filled with performances by school groups to professional dance companies; dance and movement classes; and dance globals (designed to get the average person with no movement experience moving in a safe and fun manner). At the third stage you can sample an array of classes from Salsa, to Country Social, Hip Hop, Ballroom, Jitterbug and Swing.

Food, Shopping and Family Fun
Bring the entire family to the event! Indulge yourself in performances, shopping, food, and classes, while treating your children to a day filled with arts and crafts, bounce houses, face painting, and more. There is no need to haul a cooler full of drinks or food to the event as the delectable array of foods are reasonably priced and well worth their money. You can let the aromas of an ethnic display of cultural cuisines envelop your senses, as you browse through the Exhibitors Area for arts and crafts, jewelry, dance wear, photography, and unique international items.
