Darrel is a middle-aged mentally challenged man who lives with his mother. When she dies in her sleep, Darrel does not realise she is gone, and so, for 10 days, he lives alone. Tandem to Darrel’s day to day routine are the adventures of his favourite children’s book characters, Honeydog and Little Burp. Their search for a home leads the dog and duck to an understanding of family, while Darrel’s ease in the world illustrates just how his mother has paved the path for him to be without her. Simple, tender, funny and unapologetic, 10 Days on Earth asks: If you were alone, but didn’t know it, would you feel lonely?
Ronnie Burkett is a VECC audience and critical favourite. Previous Vancouver engagements include Tinka’s New Dress and Provenance, both of which inspired acclaim from the press and sold-out houses. Don’t miss his latest work.
10 Days on Earth is a theatrical piece intended and created solely for a mature audience. Children under 14 will not be admitted.
10 Days on Earth is a co-commission of the Vienna Festival, The Barbican in London, queerupnorth in Manchester, and CanStage in Toronto.
